MMA Seminar: Use of Empathy in Supervision
Macau Management Association held a seminar on “Use of Empathy in Supervision” on May 31 (Friday). The seminar was attended by nearly 50 middle-level of managerial personnel from 13 local organizations.
Mr Patrick Kung, professional and senior trainer in police affairs was invited to be a speaker who shared his distinct insights as well as relevant skills on empathy to audiences. Interpreting the basic concept of empathy and its corresponding functions with diversity. Exploring how managerial personnel can supervise their subordinates via use of empathy, thereby enhancing management skills in supervision. Kung stated that empathy is one of the most important interpersonal skills, people can facilitate collaboration and trust by entering into the inner world of others through skillfully use of empathy, understanding their concerns and actual feelings, and giving the best response for the current situation. Recognizing and proper use of empathy can increase the ability of managers for negotiate, mediate as well as interview aspects, Meanwhile, helping others to reduce pressure and enhance personal leadership skills and influence, thereby improving the effectiveness of supervision and training.
Moreover, Kung also shared his precious experience involve various fields, including police works, training and development, family counselling and complaints handling and so on. It contributes inspiration and resonates to audiences so that they can have a deeper understanding and practical application to their works.
