MMA Annual Management Conference 2024: Enterprise Management in the Era of AI
Organised by Macau Management Association, supported by Macau Institute of Management and Wuyi University Jiangmen and sponsored by Macao Foundation, the 2024 MMA Annual Management Conference: Enterprise Management in the Era of Artificial Intelligence was successfully concluded on November 6 at Macau Tower. Mr. Peng Xiangyang, Second – level Consultant of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Mr. Tommy Lau, Council Chairman of MMA; Mr. Bernie Leong, Mr. Jose Tang, Mr. Paul Tse, Vice-Presidents of MMA; Mr. Chan Chak Mo, Mr. Alex Mok, Council Vice-Chairmen of MMA; Mr. Raymond Bao, Council Vice-Chairman & Honorary Treasurer; Ms. Jodie Lam, Secretary General of MMA attended the Conference.
We were honored to have invited Professor Li Xiang, the Deputy Dean of the School of Economics and Management of Wuyi University Jiangmen, Dr. Li Qingbiao, Assistant Professor of Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau and Mr. Wu Shiwei, CTO of APAC Region, Huawei Cloud, to share their insight on the subject ranging from the development trends and their practical experiences at AI.
Addressing the Conference’s opening remarks, Mr. Tommy Lau said that the Macao SAR government has stepped up its efforts in promoting the development of high-tech industries, encouraging the restructuring and upgrading of traditional industries in recent years. With the popularity of digitalization and intelligence, AI technology is advancing by leaps and bounds, significantly improving the production efficiency and decision-making ability of enterprises, as well as posing new challenges to the traditional enterprise management model. Facing these changes, the enterprises need to seriously consider and prepare themselves for technological innovation, organisational change and talent cultivation, to ensure that they can keep a leading position in intense competition. It is hoped to inspire the local enterprises on the future of AI technology, and to provide suggestions and support for the intelligent management in Macao.
Dr. Li Qingbiao, Assistant Professor of Science and Technology, University of Macau, stated that he felt that Macao is weaker than the Mainland China in terms of digitalization in some aspects but in order to achieve intelligence, we have to solve the problem of digitalization in the first place. Because intelligence is equivalent to big models and big data, it is difficult to apply big data and big models to improve performance without turning the data into text data. It is considered that the protection of personal privacy has to be technically realised before digitalization could be promoted.
Besides, Professor Li Xiang, the Deputy Dean of the School of Economics and Management of Wuyi University Jiangmen, suggested that changes in management concepts and methods are inevitable in the digital economy, and technological innovation and application could enhance the operational efficiency of enterprises, optimise the allocation of resources, and improve brand value and market competition. The synergistic development of digitalization and greening, and the construction of an environmental management system will lead to a win-win situation in terms of both economic and environmental benefits.
Last but not least, Mr. Wu Shiwei, CTO of APAC Region of Huawei Cloud, shared that the changes in the cloud computing business over the past 10 years. He indicated that if enterprises want to accelerate the industrial transformation of the digital economy, they need more help from external parties, such as consultants and partners, in order to achieve the integration of digital intelligence and promote the digital transformation of the industry.
