Press Conference of “Survey on Labor Mobility of Macau Citizens 2024”
Organized by MMA, sponsored by Macau Foundation, the press conference of “Survey on Labor Mobility of Macau Citizens 2024” was held on March 4, 2025 (Tuesday), hosted by Mr. Carlos Lam, Council Member of MMA, Prof. Samuel Tong, President of MIM as well as Ms. Rain Lok, Senior Manager of Training & Consultancy Division. Ms. Lam Sin Man, Deputy General Manager of Human Resources Department of Tai Fung Bank, Ms. Ko Ka Yan, Senior Customer Service Manager of Inclusive Financial Business Division of ICBC Macau and Ms. Wu Hio Lam, Personnel Coordinator of Macau International Airport Co. Ltd attended the conference.
A total of 1,042 valid questionnaires of survey were obtained, the report reveals multiple changes in Macau's labor market regarding employment mobility, career development direction and workplace demands. The economic recovery in the post-pandemic era has driven a relatively faster rebound in industries such as hotel operations, catering, and retail, making them significant sectors for job absorption.
In addition, the report indicates an increase in residents' willingness to seek employment across different regions, although the overall proportion remains relatively low. The report recommends that the government should explore the establishment of a comprehensive qualifications framework system and strengthen cooperation with cities in the Greater Bay Area in terms of qualifications frameworks and certification. Enterprises need to optimize their salary and benefits structures and establish clear career progression pathways, while employees should enhance their efficiency and career planning capabilities, actively participating in vocational training and further education.
